Remote SEO Services for UK & US Businesses from India

We are a Bengaluru-based SEO team serving businesses in the United Kingdom and United States entirely remotely. No London or New York office — we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we offer instead is 20 years of SEO work, country-specific guidance on the details that actually differ, transparent pricing in your currency, and a delivery model built around the time difference rather than ignoring it.

What This Page Is Not

This is not a page pretending we have a London or New York office. We do not. If your business specifically needs an agency you can walk into for a face-to-face meeting, we are not the right fit, and we would rather tell you that now than after a contract is signed. What follows is what we can genuinely offer — including the specific ways SEO, tax display, and advertising rules differ between the UK and the US — along with the trade-offs of working with us remotely.

Treating "the UK and US" as one English-speaking market is a common mistake in websites built without direct experience in either country. VAT and sales tax work completely differently. Advertising claims are policed by different regulators. Even the spelling and vocabulary a UK reader expects is not the spelling and vocabulary a US reader expects, despite both being English. This page tries to reflect that rather than flatten it into one generic pitch.

Why UK and US Businesses Hire a Remote India-Based SEO Team

The honest reason most conversations start is cost. Indian SEO teams typically charge 40 to 60 percent less than comparable UK or US agencies for similar technical and content work, because operating costs — office space, salaries, overheads — are structurally lower here. That gap does not mean lower quality; it means a different cost base built on two decades of running SEO campaigns in Bangalore and across India.

Beyond cost, three reasons come up consistently on discovery calls:

  • English-first work with no translation layer. Our content, reporting, and communication are in English from the outset — no outsourcing chain, no language gap between you and the person doing the work.
  • The time difference works in your favour for turnaround. Work submitted at the end of your business day is often reviewed and progressed by our team while your own office is closed, so tasks move forward overnight rather than sitting idle.
  • Deep experience with Google’s algorithm history. We have operated through every major update since 2006 — Panda, Penguin, Hummingbird, BERT, the Helpful Content System, and the current March 2026 Spam Update, December 2025 Core Update, and August 2025 Spam Update. The same technical and content standards we apply domestically apply to UK and US work.

How the Time Difference Actually Works

India Standard Time (IST) is UTC+5:30 year-round — India does not observe daylight saving. The UK and US both do, and because their clock-change dates do not line up exactly, the offset shifts by an extra hour for a week or two each spring and autumn.

Clock comparison diagram showing IST alongside UK and US Eastern and Pacific time zones
Your LocationApproximate Offset from ISTWhat This Means Practically
London, UK (GMT/BST)4:30 to 5:30 hours behindYour morning overlaps our afternoon — the best window for live calls of any market we serve internationally
New York, US Eastern (EST/EDT)9:30 to 10:30 hours behindYour morning is our evening — workable for a scheduled weekly call, better for async updates day to day
Chicago, US Central (CST/CDT)10:30 to 11:30 hours behindSimilar pattern to Eastern, shifted an hour later in your day
Los Angeles, US Pacific (PST/PDT)12:30 to 13:30 hours behindMinimal live overlap; we lean on written reports and a fixed weekly call slot

In practice, UK clients get the most live-call flexibility of any international market we serve, since a UK afternoon lands squarely in our working day. US clients further from the East Coast get more async communication by necessity — written updates, shared documents, and a dashboard you can check on your own schedule, with one live strategy review booked at a fixed time each month.

What Remote Delivery Actually Looks Like

Onboarding Call

A video call to understand your business, current site, and goals — scheduled at a time that works for your business hours, not ours.

Written Audit & Proposal

A specific technical and content audit of your actual website, delivered as a document you review on your own time, followed by a written proposal.

Shared Dashboard Access

You get direct owner-level access to your own Google Search Console, GA4, and reporting dashboard — not a locked-down agency login.

Market-Specific Content

Content written via our content writing team in UK or US English conventions, based on which market a given page targets.

Monthly Video Review

One scheduled live call per month for strategy review, plus written monthly reports covering rankings, traffic, and enquiries.

Async-First Communication

Day-to-day updates via email and shared documents so work continues without requiring you to be online at the same time we are.

SEO for United Kingdom Businesses

Original line-art illustration representing a UK city

The UK is a single VAT jurisdiction, which is simpler in one sense than the market we describe below, but it comes with its own well-defined compliance layer. Once a business's taxable turnover exceeds £90,000 in any rolling 12-month period, VAT registration with HMRC becomes mandatory within 30 days; the deregistration threshold sits at £88,000. The standard VAT rate is 20 percent, with a 5 percent reduced rate for specific categories and 0 percent zero-rating for items such as most food, books, and children's clothing. None of this is SEO mechanics directly, but a site that displays pricing inconsistently against these rules — showing VAT-inclusive prices on some pages and VAT-exclusive on others, for instance — erodes trust with a purchase-ready visitor and can create duplicate-content-style confusion for Google when the same product appears to have two different prices.

UK companies register with Companies House rather than a single national business-number system, and a registered company number displayed alongside a registered office address does for UK site trust what an ABN does in Australia or an EIN does in the US — a small detail that signals a real, accountable business rather than a placeholder site.

What Differs From Indian or Generic SEO Work

  • Spelling and terminology. "Organise," "colour," "specialise," and "postcode" rather than American "organize," "color," "specialize," and "zip code" — and rather than any Indian English default. Getting this consistent across every page matters more than most site owners assume.
  • Advertising claims and the CAP Code. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) enforces the CAP Code across non-broadcast advertising, including a business's own website and social channels, on the principle that ads must be legal, decent, honest, and truthful. Since 2026, the Competition and Markets Authority has also gained direct consumer-protection enforcement powers under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act, working alongside the ASA's self-regulatory system. We flag comparative or superiority claims for your own review rather than publishing them unchecked.
  • ICO and UK GDPR. The Information Commissioner's Office oversees UK GDPR compliance, which shapes what a compliant cookie banner, privacy policy, and data collection form should look like on a UK-facing site.
  • Nations within the UK. England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland share a VAT and advertising framework but have some distinct consumer-facing regulations and search behaviour differences — a business serving Scotland specifically benefits from content that reflects that rather than assuming "UK" means "England."

For registration and compliance detail we are not qualified to advise on directly, we point clients to the UK government's own resources: gov.uk business setup guidance and asa.org.uk for advertising rules.

E-Commerce and Payments in the UK Market

Shopify and WooCommerce both have strong adoption among UK retailers, with WooCommerce particularly common among businesses that started on WordPress. Klarna and Clearpay (the UK arm of Afterpay) are widely expected buy-now-pay-later options at checkout, and their absence is often noticed by UK shoppers in fashion, home, and electronics categories even when not used on every order. For SEO purposes, product schema markup that correctly reflects VAT-inclusive pricing — the UK convention for consumer-facing prices, unlike the tax-exclusive pricing common in the US — supports both user trust and eligibility for Google Shopping-adjacent rich results.

SEO for United States Businesses

Original line-art illustration representing a US city

The US is the largest and most structurally complex of any market we serve internationally, for one specific reason: there is no national VAT or sales tax. Sales tax is set at the state level, and in most states, layered further at the county and city level, which means the same product can carry a noticeably different tax rate depending on where the buyer is located — and five states (Oregon, Montana, New Hampshire, Delaware, and Alaska at the state level) charge no state sales tax at all. For any US business selling beyond its home state, this is not a minor detail; it is one of the most common technical and content gaps we find in US e-commerce sites during an audit.

Business registration in the US also has no single national equivalent to a UK company number. Most businesses register an Employer Identification Number (EIN) with the IRS, and the underlying business entity — sole proprietorship, LLC, S-corp, or C-corp — is formed at the state level, with different states offering genuinely different advantages depending on the business type.

What Differs From Indian or Generic SEO Work

  • Spelling and terminology. "Organize," "color," "specialize," and "zip code" rather than UK conventions — the reverse of the UK section above, and a detail that matters just as much in the other direction.
  • State-by-state sales tax display. A site that shows one flat tax-inclusive price nationally, the way UK VAT display works, is simply incorrect for most US e-commerce contexts. Tax-exclusive pricing calculated at checkout based on the buyer's location is the norm, and getting this wrong on product pages creates a mismatch between what search results imply and what a shopper actually pays.
  • FTC advertising and endorsement rules. The Federal Trade Commission enforces rules against deceptive advertising and requires clear disclosure for sponsored content, affiliate links, and influencer endorsements. We flag comparative or superiority claims, and any paid-endorsement content, for your own legal review before publishing.
  • ADA website accessibility exposure. This is a genuinely active legal risk in the US that has no real UK equivalent at the same scale. Tracking methodologies vary — one widely cited federal-court-only count puts 2025 filings at 3,117, up 27 percent from 2,452 in 2024, while broader tracking that includes state courts puts total 2025 digital accessibility filings above 5,000. Both counts agree on the direction: filings are rising, and roughly two-thirds of businesses sued have under $25 million in annual revenue, meaning this is not a large-company-only problem. We audit against the WCAG 2.1 AA standard most litigation references as part of a technical SEO audit, though we are not lawyers and do not provide a legal compliance guarantee.
  • State-level privacy laws. Unlike the UK's single ICO/UK GDPR framework, the US has no single federal privacy law. California's CCPA was first, and a growing list of other states have since passed their own versions with meaningfully different requirements, which affects what a compliant cookie banner and data disclosure should say depending on which states a business's traffic comes from.

For registration and compliance guidance we are not qualified to give directly, we point clients to the IRS's own resource for business registration — irs.gov small business resources — and the FTC's own advertising guidance at ftc.gov business guidance.

E-Commerce and Payments in the US Market

Shopify, WooCommerce, and BigCommerce all have meaningful US market share, with BigCommerce's presence noticeably higher in the US than in the UK, Australia, or Canada. Afterpay, Klarna, and Affirm compete directly as buy-now-pay-later options at US checkouts, alongside near-universal card processing. Because of the state sales tax complexity described above, US shoppers are generally accustomed to seeing tax calculated after they enter a shipping address rather than baked into a displayed price — the opposite of UK shopper expectations — and a checkout flow that gets this backwards tends to create confusion rather than trust.

Where We're Covering This Ground: A Quick Visual

One delivery team in Bengaluru, two distinct markets on opposite sides of the time difference — not one template stretched across both.

Indicative Pricing

Pricing below is converted from our standard INR-based rates — the same structure behind our domestic SEO pricing — and confirmed in your currency at proposal stage, since exchange rates move. As an export of services under Indian tax rules, VAT and sales tax do not apply to these invoices on our end; any tax treatment on your end as the purchaser is a matter for your own accountant.

Business SizeApprox. Monthly Range (USD)Scope
Small business, single service line$220 – $480Technical fixes, local SEO if applicable, basic content, monthly reporting
Growing business, multiple services or locations$550 – $1,450Full content plan, technical SEO, structured local SEO, dedicated reporting
Competitive market or larger site$1,800+Dedicated strategist, content team, advanced technical work

GBP quotes are provided at the same proposal stage based on the exchange rate at that time. We do not lock in a currency-specific GBP number on this page because doing so accurately would mean updating it daily. If you already run paid search campaigns, we typically recommend maintaining those while SEO foundations are built, rather than switching off paid traffic prematurely.

How We Handle Access and Data Working Remotely

Handing website, analytics, and Search Console access to a team on the other side of the world is a legitimate concern, and we would rather address it directly than hope it does not come up.

  • You control access, we do not. Google Search Console, GA4, and Google Business Profile are added as users under permissions you grant and can revoke at any time from your own account. We never ask you to hand over your primary login credentials.
  • CMS access is role-based. On WordPress, Shopify, or custom builds, we request an editor or admin-level user account created for our team specifically, not shared credentials, so any change is attributable and revocable.
  • No client data leaves agreed systems. Reporting lives in shared Google Sheets, Looker Studio dashboards, or a system you already use — we do not export client data into unrelated third-party tools without asking first.
  • An NDA is standard practice, not an unusual request. For clients handling sensitive commercial information, we sign a mutual non-disclosure agreement before any account access is granted, built into our onboarding process by default for international clients.

Common Mistakes We See in Sites Built Without Market-Specific SEO Input

Before we ever start a technical audit, we look at whether a site's existing content and structure suggest it was built with the target market genuinely in mind, or adapted from a template with the country name swapped in. A few patterns show up repeatedly across both markets we cover here.

  • Mixing UK and US spelling and vocabulary on the same page. A site using "organize" in body copy while displaying prices in GBP, or switching between "trainers" and "sneakers" inconsistently, signals to both users and Google that the content was not built cohesively for one audience.
  • Tax display backwards for the market. Showing tax-exclusive pricing to UK visitors (who expect VAT-inclusive prices) or tax-inclusive pricing to US visitors (who expect tax calculated at checkout by location) is one of the most common and most damaging mistakes we see in dual-market sites.
  • Treating the US as one market. A campaign built around "US customers" without accounting for state-level sales tax, regional search behaviour, and the sheer size difference between, say, Texas and Rhode Island, tends to produce content too broad to rank for anything specific.
  • Missing or incorrect structured data for the local business type. LocalBusiness schema that omits the correct country or uses an address format that does not match UK or US postal conventions can quietly prevent a site from qualifying for local search features it should otherwise be eligible for.
  • Ignoring accessibility until a demand letter arrives. Given the scale of ADA Title III litigation described above, treating accessibility as a US-market afterthought is a measurably higher-risk decision than it would be for a UK-only site.

None of these are exotic problems. They are the kind of details a team without direct experience in either market tends to miss, and the kind of details we build a checklist around precisely because we have seen them recur across client work.

Getting Started: What We Need From You

A discovery call moves faster when we already have a few basics, though none of this is required before that first conversation:

  • Your website URL and, if you have one, existing Google Search Console or GA4 access (even view-only helps us prepare)
  • A short description of your main products or services and the three competitors you consider most relevant
  • Whether you are UK-only, US-only, or both, and which specific regions or states matter most, since this shapes local SEO priority
  • Any existing brand or style guide, so market-specific content matches your voice rather than a generic default
  • Your preferred call time in your own time zone, so we schedule around you rather than asking you to work around IST

None of this needs to be perfect or complete before reaching out — a discovery call is where we fill in the gaps together.

Who This Is a Good Fit For — and Who It Isn’t

Good Fit

Businesses comfortable managing a vendor relationship over video calls and written reports, who want strong technical and content SEO work at a lower cost than local agencies, and who do not require in-person meetings.

Not a Good Fit

Businesses that specifically need a local team for in-person workshops, on-site photography, or a physical office relationship. We would rather say this upfront than take on a client we cannot properly serve.

Worth a Conversation

Not sure which category you fall into? A 20-minute discovery call usually makes it clear quickly, with no obligation either way.

What We Bring From Two Decades in the Indian Market

I have watched enough Bangalore businesses get burned by agencies overselling international reach they didn't have that I did not want to write this page the same way. When a UK or US enquiry comes in, I personally review the discovery call notes before we scope anything, because a remote engagement only works if the person leading strategy has actually sat through client calls across odd hours and knows where the real friction points are — not just in theory, but from running this exact playbook for coastal Karnataka and Bangalore clients since 2006.

We are not going to fabricate UK or US case studies we do not have. What we can point to honestly is a track record built since 2006 across Bangalore, Mangaluru, and Mysuru — the same technical SEO discipline, the same content and on-page standards, and the same reporting transparency we apply domestically. Our client reviews and portfolio reflect that Indian market history, not a claim to international experience we have not yet earned. If that honesty matters to you as much as it matters to us, a conversation is worth having.

We also build the surrounding digital presence when needed — website design, custom development, landing pages, mobile apps, and brand identity work — under the same in-house team, so an international client is not passed between multiple vendors for related work. For businesses in Australia, Canada, or New Zealand instead, our international remote SEO page covers those markets specifically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does OneCity have an office in the UK or the US?

No. We are based in Bengaluru, India, with offices in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, and Mysuru. We deliver SEO for UK and US clients entirely remotely, and we would rather say that plainly than imply a local presence we do not have.

How do calls and meetings work across the time difference?

We schedule recurring calls in the early morning IST, which lands in the previous evening for UK clients and late evening or overnight for US clients depending on the coast. Most day-to-day communication happens async via email and shared dashboards, with live calls reserved for scheduled strategy reviews.

What is the difference between UK VAT and US sales tax for my SEO invoice?

We do not charge VAT or sales tax on our invoices, since our services are an export of services from India and outside the scope of UK VAT and US state sales tax. Any tax treatment on your end, including UK reverse charge rules or US use tax, is a matter for your own accountant.

Why would a UK or US business hire a remote India-based SEO team instead of a local agency?

Primarily cost. Indian SEO teams typically charge 40 to 60 percent less than comparable UK or US agencies for similar technical and content work, because operating costs are structurally lower here. The trade-off is no in-person meetings and a relationship built over video calls and written reports.

What currency do you invoice in?

We invoice in GBP or USD depending on your preference, converted from our INR-based pricing at proposal stage. VAT and sales tax do not apply to export-of-services invoices under Indian tax rules.

Do you handle ADA website accessibility for US clients?

We build and audit against the WCAG 2.1 AA standard that most ADA Title III litigation references, and we flag accessibility gaps as part of a technical audit. We are not lawyers, so we do not provide a legal compliance guarantee, and we recommend a qualified accessibility attorney for anything beyond technical remediation.

Is my content written in UK English or US English, or does it default to Indian English?

Neither by default. Our content team writes in UK spelling and phrasing for UK clients and US spelling and phrasing for US clients, based on which market a page targets, and we ask for your input on tone and terminology before writing anything customer-facing.
